There is a common saying that startups are typically a masculine world. It’s not just a saying but a fact. According to Startup Genome, less than 15% of tech startup founders in Europe are women. Despite the low percentage, there are a few women who have bravely stepped into this male-dominated world and achieved significant success. For example, 4% of the UK’s fastest-growing tech startups are led by women. So why does the belief persist that women are not great leaders and, most of all, not suited to be CEOs of startups?
In this article, we focus on women in the startup field.
Female Leaders
A sad reality in the startup world is the limited space for women. People often assume that women are not interested in technology, IT, or the constant pursuit of goals and purpose. Fortunately, this image is starting to change, and women are no longer being sidelined as much. More and more women are coming up with great and creative ideas that turn into well-working and successful startups. Fingers crossed for more such initiatives and a higher percentage of women in this field.
Female-Friendly Startup World
Changes in the startup world need to start from the ground up. More women must have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life. Recently, one of the Polish accelerator programs created a new project for Polish and Ukrainian female CEOs, supported by the Visa Foundation.
The Female Startup Pre-accelerator (FSP), sponsored by the Visa Foundation, is the second part of our series of programs Facilitating Female Founders. The initiative is a pre-acceleration program specifically designed for female entrepreneurs with Polish or Ukrainian citizenship. Weโre on a mission to equip founders with skills to scale their startups and establish their businesses in CEE. Whatโs more, 10 of our participants can gain a $10,000 grant for further development of their projects.
