At some point in everyone’s life, there comes a moment when blood testing becomes necessary. Itโs not particularly pleasant, but when itโs necessary, it must be done. Many people avoid it due to fear of pain, blood, or needles. For others, it’s the inconvenience of taking a day off and waiting for results.
Nourica Startup recognized this issue and developed a non-invasive device for blood testing without the need for blood sampling. Sounds impossible? Allow us to introduce Dariusz Gajewicz, co-founder of Nourica, who discussed this innovation as a guest on the Startup Stories Podcast hosted by Agata Walendowska.
What does Nourica Startup do?
The first question posed to our guest was, “What does your startup do?“
Dariusz Gajewicz: Nourica wants to change screening tests. How does it work today and how it will work in the future. Right now if you need to perform some tests to get some results – it’s quite problematic. It takes a long time to do it. You need to go to additional places and so on you need to wait for the results. We want to simplify it. We want to give you the tool to do it instantly and even by yourself.
We also inquired about how the device operates and on what basis it can assess one’s health. Dariusz clarified how the device functions: the device will check your biomarker. Those biomarkers are substances that can say something about your health. It can be for example a hormone, or it can be any other molecule. But when you check the level of the substance in your body, or like in our case in your sweat, you can say something about the health of the person so based on your biomarkers. We can say if you should go for treatment to a doctor, or maybe you’re healthy and you shouldn’t be worried about it.
Benefits
One of the most pressing questions for listeners and readers is always about the benefits of a particular device or service. We couldn’t overlook this aspect and asked our guests about the advantages of the Nourica device, aside from its non-invasive nature and pain-free testing. The response was enlightening:
I would say convenience. Even for me, when a doctor recommends blood tests, I often feel discouraged due to the time and effort involved. With our device, testing can be completed within minutes during the same appointment, eliminating the need for multiple visits and wait times.
Idea
Once we understood what Nourica does, it was time to delve into the idea behind their device.
Dariusz Gajewicz: We were developing our technology like in different start-ups and we developed this device based on Roman spectroscopy, and we figured out that this device is universal. You can measure many different things not only in biology and medicine but also in chemistry. So we figured out that maybe we could use this technology not only in one project but maybe we can go wider in different fields.
Advice
Throughout our conversation with Dariusz, we covered many intriguing topics, which you can explore in our podcast. The final question posed to him was about advice for startups. Here’s his recommendation:
I assume that many people said: don’t do it. So I want to be original I should say something else besides don’t do it. If you decide to do it then take your time in the market analysis. Do it carefully because it determines if your product or [project is worth trying or not. Even if someone else already did it maybe you are better in some way you’re competitive, maybe not better, but you are more suited for different parts of the market and don’t be afraid to pivot. In our case, we had different projects and Nourcia is a spin-off with some changes in concept. So don’t be afraid to change your concept because maybe if your first concept wasn’t right you couldn’t find customers maybe if you change something then the customers will find you.
